“I only went out for a walk
and finally concluded to stay out till sundown,
for going out, I found, was really going in.”

Once a Californian, always a Californian. Those that know me know how truly special this place is to me after I spent a summer living and working in Yosemite National Park. It’s crazy for me to think that for how much meaning this place holds for me it took me three years to find the time to return. But once I went back, saw the same sights, smelled the familiar smells and it all came rushing back. It felt very much like returning home.
Three years ago when I lived here I had no idea I was going to start photographing couples and weddings. So I was determined to find a couple to photograph while I was there, knowing that the California sun wouldn’t disappoint (John Muir didn’t call the Sierras the Range of Light for no reason!) and that the sights would never let me know. As luck would have it, a San Diego Wedding Photographer, Brooke Hughes and her husband Michael were going to be in Yosemite the same days I would be.
That day we met up and spent half the day enjoying the park, exploring, cracking jokes, sharing stories and just getting to know each other. We wandered around the valley chasing the light before hiking up to Taft Point to catch the sunset. On our hike back we were laughing with joy at how jaw droppingly beautiful the entire day had been when we suddenly realized how striking the stars were and, well… you’ll see at the end.
