This shoot was featured as one of Junebug Weddings favorite styled shoot of 2015! Check out the feature here.
It was two years and three weeks ago when I first moved to the Pacific Northwest. If you really stop to think about it, the timing was pretty awful. At this point I’m on route for my third, and thus far wettest, winter yet but at least I’ve enjoyed two of the most beautiful summers I could never have imagined.
When I set out to create this styled shoot, I knew that I wanted to create something that to me felt intrinsically Northwestern. It had to be an elopement taking advantage of the natural scenery the landscape had to offer, but I also wanted a place that hadn’t already been done. So that automatically ruled out Rattlesnake Ridge and Snoqualmie Falls (here’s looking at you, Benj Haisch). I wanted a lake with the snowy mountain in the background and I happened to find it in Snoqualmie Falls. After that, thanks to the amazing team I worked with everything fell into place beautifully.
Well, almost. I will tell you the funny story behind the Snoqualmie Pass Adventure Elopement…
The day of, the male model I had cast for the part of the groom fell off the face of the Earth. Just poof, never heard from him again. The groom got cold feet. I was in a sheer panic and my bride was underway to get her makeup done (which FYI, always takes waaay longer than you anticipate). I frantically put out an emergency casting call and got a few cold leads, but no one was able to step in at the last minute.
My darling and wonderfully supportive boyfriend Jay took this time to run down to the Goodwill across the street from our then apartment and throw together a last minute outfit fit for a groom. So, there you have it. The groom in this set is, in fact, my boyfriend.
How’s that for a story?
